Taylor Swift was the star of the night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, held on Wednesday. She took home seven “moon person” trophies out of her 12 nominations, including the top honors for Video of the Year and Artist of the Year.
These wins bring her total VMA awards to 30, making her the most-awarded solo artist in VMAs history. This achievement ties her with Beyoncé for the most overall VMA wins, considering Beyoncé’s wins with Destiny’s Child, The Carters, and her solo career.

Later, while accepting the Video of the Year award for her song “Fortnight,” she mentioned how much fun she had making the video. She also gave a special shout-out to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who was on set cheering her on. “Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic,” she said.
A Night of Nostalgia and Performances
The 2024 VMAs also marked the 40th anniversary of the event, and the show opened with a nod to a classic VMA moment: Eminem, accompanied by dozens of lookalikes, reenacted his iconic 2000 entrance by marching into the UBS Arena.
The night was filled with a variety of performances across genres. Eminem and Megan Thee Stallion brought rap to the stage, Lenny Kravitz rocked the house, and pop artists like Halsey, Sabrina Carpenter, and Camila Cabello dazzled the audience. K-pop star LISA, Latin performers Karol G, Anitta, and Rauw Alejandro, and others added to the diverse musical mix.
Katy Perry was honored with the Video Vanguard Award and delivered an electrifying performance of her greatest hits. She was presented with the award by her partner, Orlando Bloom.
A Powerful Moment for New Artist Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan, who won Best New Artist, delivered an emotional performance of her song “Good Luck, Babe!” dressed as Joan of Arc. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated her award to drag artists, the queer and trans community, and all the fans who connect with her music. She gave a shoutout to the “queer kids in the Midwest,” encouraging them to be true to themselves.
