In a recent Instagram post, Kim Kardashian’s stylist, Dany Levi faces backlash over Exotic comment on Aishwarya Rai. Levi, who was discussing the Kardashians’ trip to Mumbai for the extravagant Ambani wedding, referred to Aishwarya as ‘exotic’—a term that did not sit well with many of her followers.

Levi’s video, which has garnered over 30,000 likes, details how Kim and Khloe Kardashian’s Indian outfits for the Ambani wedding were inspired by Aishwarya. The wedding, reputedly the most expensive in the world at over $600 million, saw the Kardashians don traditional Indian attire. Levi mentioned that they sought the expertise of renowned designers Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani and accessorized with jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz.
However, Levi’s use of the word ‘exotic’ to describe Aishwarya drew immediate criticism. One user, Aarjvi Jain, commented on the post, saying,
“Overall, Kim’s looks were definitely better than Khloe’s. Only her pink saree/gown look was the best. To the Indian eye, the looks were definitely over-sexualized and would have been a banger had it been for just one look, but it was the same for all.”
Levi captioned her post, “Thank You Kim and Khloe for being my Indian Barbies for this wedding and Thank You India for sharing your beautiful culture and traditions with us and allowing us to take part in your magic .” The post intended to express gratitude but missed the mark due to the insensitive terminology.

The Kardashians’ visit to Mumbai for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding, which took place over the July 12 weekend, also included a philanthropic gesture. The sisters took some time out to serve food to children at the ISKCON temple in Mumbai, highlighting their engagement with the local community.
While Levi’s intention was to celebrate Indian culture, the backlash underscores the importance of cultural sensitivity and the impact of words, even when meant as compliments. As the conversation continues, it serves as a reminder to appreciate cultural diversity with respect and understanding.
