According to Guo Fei, a neurologist from Huazhong University of Science and Technology Xiehe Shenzhen Hospital, adults should get seven to nine hours of sleep each night for proper recovery and repair of the body and brain. Lack of sleep can lead to problems like memory loss, weak immunity, mood disorders, and higher risks of heart diseases.

In 2016, he founded the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association, where he offers classes on how to sleep less but still feel rested. Hori believes that high-quality sleep is more important than the length of sleep, especially for people who need to stay focused, like doctors and firefighters. He claims to have trained over 2,100 students to adopt this “ultra-short sleep” method.
One of his students shared that she successfully reduced her sleep from eight hours to just 90 minutes a night after taking Hori’s training. She has maintained this routine for four years while keeping her skin and mental health in great condition.
