Daisuke Hori a 40-year-old entrepreneur from Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan, has been living a very unique lifestyle for the past 12 years. Japanese Daisuke Hori sleeps 30 minutes a day. Hori believes that by reducing his sleep, he can “double” his life by gaining more waking hours to be productive. He says that he feels more efficient at work, never feels tired, and uses his extra time to pursue his passions like music, painting, and mechanical design.

How Daisuke Hori Manages to Sleep 30 Minutes

Hori began cutting back on his sleep to gain more active hours in his day. Over time, he has trained his brain and body to function normally on just 30 to 45 minutes of rest. He suggests simple tricks like doing sports or drinking coffee an hour before eating to avoid feeling sleepy. His daily routine is packed with work and gym sessions, which he fits into his extended waking hours. There was even a day when he slept for just 26 minutes and woke up feeling refreshed and energetic.

Health Warnings from Experts

While Hori’s lifestyle might sound interesting to some, medical experts are concerned. They say that this kind of extreme sleep reduction is not for everyone and can have serious health risks. According to Guo Fei, a neurologist from Huazhong University of Science and Technology Xiehe Shenzhen Hospital, adults should get seven to nine hours of sleep each night for proper recovery and repair of the body and brain. Lack of sleep can lead to problems like memory loss, weak immunity, mood disorders, and higher risks of heart diseases.

Hori’s Sleep Training Program

Hori’s unusual lifestyle gained attention when it was featured on Japan’s Yomiuri TV show “Will You Go With Me?”, which followed him for three days. In 2016, he founded the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association, where he offers classes on how to sleep less but still feel rested. Hori believes that high-quality sleep is more important than the length of sleep, especially for people who need to stay focused, like doctors and firefighters. He claims to have trained over 2,100 students to adopt this “ultra-short sleep” method.

One of his students shared that she successfully reduced her sleep from eight hours to just 90 minutes a night after taking Hori’s training. She has maintained this routine for four years while keeping her skin and mental health in great condition.

Reactions on Social Media

Hori’s extreme sleep schedule has sparked heated debates on social media. Some people admire him as a master of time management and express interest in learning to sleep less. Others, however, warn of the possible health dangers. One comment on social media reads,

“This is like using up your life in advance! Even if the brain stays awake, the heart might not handle it.”

Other Extreme Lifestyle Claims

Hori’s story isn’t the only one of its kind. Another well-known case is that of Prahlad Jani, an Indian yogi who claimed to have lived without food and water since 1940. He reportedly passed away at the age of 90 in 2020.

Lets Wrapping Up
