The Unpredictable Weather in the UAE with the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reporting heavy rains and hailstorms. On Monday, the Dubai-Al Ain Road and the Masakin area of Al Ain witnessed intense weather conditions. The past couple of days have brought light rain and heavy drizzles across various parts of the country, with forecasts indicating that this trend is set to continue.

A Closer Look at the Weather Patterns

According to Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert at the NCM, the current weather pattern is influenced by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) reaching the UAE. The ITCZ is a belt of low pressure that circles the Earth, typically near the equator, where trade winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres converge. This zone is responsible for bringing clouds from the Arabian Sea toward the UAE.

“We are under the extension of low pressure from the East in the surface and upper layers,” Dr. Habib explained to Khaleej Times. “Additionally, the ITCZ is reaching our area, moving to the North and bringing clouds from the Arabian Sea towards the UAE. Al Ain will see concentrated rains, and areas around Al Ain may also be affected, with the possibility of showers reaching Abu Dhabi. However, the primary areas affected will be the East and the South. This will continue till August 7.”

The Impact of the ITCZ

The ITCZ’s northward shift is causing an extension of low pressure over Oman and the eastern part of the UAE. This movement has led to the formation of convective clouds over Al Ain, resulting in heavy rainfall. Dr. Habib noted that areas like Al Hameem could also experience showers, particularly in the mornings and evenings.

The ITCZ is also responsible for bringing moist winds to India and Pakistan during the summer, triggering the monsoon season. This same weather pattern, although less intense, is now impacting the UAE.

What to Expect: Rain and Temperature Changes

Residents can expect these sporadic summer rains to continue until the end of August. The temperature across the UAE is predicted to drop by 2-3°C. Coastal areas and islands could see humidity levels reach up to 80%, while in the mountains, it could drop to as low as 15%.

Over the next few days, internal regions may experience temperatures ranging from 43-47°C, while coastal areas could see temperatures between 30-42°C. Mountainous regions may cool down to around 25°C, and internal areas to 28°C. However, after August 8, a slight rise in temperature is expected.

Whether it’s heavy rains, hail, or temperature fluctuations, being prepared is key. Keep an eye on local weather reports and take necessary precautions to stay safe during these unpredictable conditions. The UAE’s unique climate continues to remind us of the dynamic nature of our environment. Stay safe, stay informed, and enjoy the refreshing change in weather!
