If you’re an Emirati living outside the UAE and renew your UAE passport if it is expired or nearing expiration, there’s no need to worry.Thanks to the UAEICP (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security), Emiratis can now renew their passports effortlessly from anywhere in the world in just 3 simple steps.

This service is specifically designed for Emiratis staying abroad for medical or educational reasons, ensuring they can renew their expired passports conveniently. Once processed, the renewed passport will be delivered to the UAE Embassy in their current location for easy pickup.

Key Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants aged 15 and older must have both a signature and fingerprint on their ID card.
  • The current passport must have less than six months of validity for renewal eligibility.

New Passport Validity Rules (Effective July 2024)

The UAE government has extended the validity of Emirates passports from 5 to 10 years for Emiratis aged 21 and older. This update reduces the number of visits to the passport office, aligning with the government’s vision of streamlining administrative processes and saving time for citizens. Emiratis can apply for a new 10-year passport upon expiry of their current passport or once all its pages are used.

How to Renew Your UAE Passport While Abroad

Emiratis can renew their passports via the UAEICP website (www.icp.gov.ae) or the smart application by following these simple steps:

  1. Log in to your UAEICP account using your digital ID.
  2. Select the service for renewing citizens’ passports.
  3. For those abroad: Submit the application, review and update the retrieved data, and pay the required fees.
  4. Receive your new passport via your preferred method—either delivered to your chosen address or the UAE Embassy.

Ensure that all personal details entered are accurate and complete before making the payment to prevent processing delays.

  • The submitted data will undergo review and verification by UAEICP.

Passport Processing Time

Once the service request meets all conditions and is accepted, the passport will be issued electronically within 48 hours.

Required Documents

To complete the passport renewal process, applicants must provide a recent personal photo that meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Personal Photo Guidelines:

  • Recent, high-quality color photo (35-40mm, taken within the last 6 months).
  • White background with neutral facial expressions.
  • Head positioned straight, facing the camera (no tilting).
  • No visible hands above the shoulders.
  • Eyes open, no colored lenses.
  • Glasses allowed, but should not obscure eyes or reflect light.
  • No frames or enhancements/modifications.
  • Official UAE dress code required.
  • Head covering allowed as per UAE customs and traditions.
  • Minimum resolution: 600 dpi, free from ink traces or wrinkles.

If an up-to-date photo is already available in the electronic system, applicants will have the option to approve the existing image or upload a new one.

Renewal Fees

Request fee: Dh10

Issue fee: Dh40

Delivery fee: Dh15

Note: The old passport must be presented to the UAE Embassy staff before the new passport can be issued.

Fee Exemptions Apply For:

  • Individuals covered under the Social Security Law.
  • Persons with disabilities and autism.
  • Cases involving errors made by UAEICP during ID or passport issuance.
