If you are planning to transfer your child to a new school in Dubai or relocate from the UAE obtaining a KHDA school transfer certificate, also known as a student leaving certificate, is essential. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

KHDA School Transfer Certificate or Student Leaving Certificate

A transfer certificate is an official document that you need if your child is transferring to another school within the UAE. If you are leaving the UAE, you may need a ‘student leaving certificate’ to prove your child’s years of study in Dubai. This certificate is attested and issued by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Parents are responsible for providing this certificate to the new school. Note that the current school will only issue it once all outstanding fees are settled.

What Does a Transfer Certificate Include?

While the format may vary slightly, a transfer certificate generally includes the following details:

  • Full name
  • Date of enrollment and leaving
  • Curriculum followed
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • Grade achieved/promotion status

How to Apply for a KHDA Transfer Certificate

1- Contact Your Child’s School Administration:

Start by reaching out to your child’s school administration. Most schools in the UAE have parent portals where you can initiate the process online.

2- School Applies for the Certificate:

After you request a transfer or leave certificate, your child’s school will apply for the document through the KHDA smart services platform.

3- KHDA Issues the Attested Certificate:

The KHDA platform will then issue the attested certificate.

4- Receive Email Notification:

You will be notified via email once the certificate is issued. You’ll need to pay the service fee, which can usually be done online or at the school.

Once the fee is paid, you will receive the transfer certificate, which includes a ‘smart attestation’ in the form of a QR code that can be scanned to verify the certificate’s validity.

Cost and Processing Time For Transfer Certificate

The fee for the transfer or student leave certificate is AED 120, plus a 5% Value Added Tax (VAT). The document is typically issued within one working day.

Academic History Certificate

In addition to the transfer certificate, you will need an academic history certificate (sometimes called a ‘To whom it may concern’ certificate) when changing schools, whether within the UAE or abroad. This document is also issued by KHDA for Dubai schools and can be easily applied for online through the DubaiNow app.

Conclusion

Transferring your child to a new school in Dubai or relocating requires proper documentation, including a transfer certificate and an academic history certificate. By following the steps outlined above, you can ensure a smooth and efficient process for securing these essential documents.
