The UAE currency is more than just a medium of economic exchange; it is a testament to the country’s rich heritage, cultural depth, and artistic beauty. Each banknote and coin carries symbolic motifs that reflect the nation’s identity, connecting past traditions with future aspirations.

Renowned photojournalist Youssef Al Qais, a 58-year-old Lebanese photographer based in Dubai, has dedicated his lens to capturing the intricate details of Emirati banknotes. He emphasizes that UAE currency serves as a cultural ambassador, carrying the nation’s history and traditions across borders.

A Currency That Tells a Story

Al Qais believes that UAE banknotes are more than just financial instruments; they are moving historical records that celebrate the nation’s past while embracing its future.

“With all its engravings and images, the Emirati currency is ultimately a cultural message passed from hand to hand,” he says.

Each time someone holds a UAE dirham, they are not just carrying money they are holding a piece of the country’s history, values, and ambitions, making the UAE’s currency a true symbol of national pride.
