Starting this November Dubai adds 2 new Salik toll gates, increasing the total number of toll gates in the city from 8 to 10. The new gates will be situated at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street.
The addition of these new gates is a strategic effort to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion in key areas. The Business Bay Crossing gate is expected to alleviate traffic congestion by 12 to 15% on Al Khail Road and decrease traffic volume on Al Rabat Street by 10 to 16%. It will also help reroute traffic to alternative routes like Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, as well as Ras Al Khor Street. The Al Safa South toll gate aims to reduce right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street by 15 per cent, thereby optimizing traffic flow on Financial Centre Road, First Al Khail Street, and Al Asayel Street.

Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik, highlighted that the new toll gates are part of a broader growth plan initiated during Salik’s initial public offering. The partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for launching these gates is a significant step towards enhancing Dubai’s transport infrastructure. This initiative supports the goals outlined in Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040, which focuses on sustainable and efficient urban development, aiming to improve overall mobility and reduce traffic congestion.

Salik, which translates to “clear and moving” in Arabic, is Dubai’s automatic toll collection system. Launched in 2007, Salik ensures free-flowing traffic by automatically charging motorists Dhs4 each time they pass through a toll gate. This charge is deducted from a prepaid account linked to the vehicle’s registration. With the addition of the two new toll gates, the Salik system will now comprise 10 toll gates across Dubai, playing a crucial role in managing the city’s traffic and facilitating smoother journeys for all road users.
