Attention drivers Dubai Police are introducing silent radars for traffic violations in residential neighborhoods across the city. Here’s what you need to know about these new, advanced radars.

Unlike traditional radars these silent radars won’t flash when they detect violations, nor will they look like the typical radars we’re used to seeing. But don’t be fooled by their discreet appearance—they are programmed to catch much more than just speeding drivers.

What Can Silent Radars Detect?

These radars will be able to:

  • Record speeding violations.
  • Detect drivers not wearing seatbelts.
  • Spot drivers using mobile phones while driving.
  • Identify if license plates are obscured or hidden, even if partially.
  • Yes, you need to follow all traffic laws, even if you’re just driving a short distance to the grocery store.

Fines and Penalties

Here are some of the fines you could incur:

  • Failure to fasten seatbelt: AED 400 fine and 4 black points.
  • Using your mobile phone while driving: AED 800 fine and 4 black points.
  • Failure to wait at a pedestrian crossing: AED 500 fine.
  • Failure to maintain a safe distance: AED 400 fine.
  • The radars can also detect illegal U-turns and other traffic violations.

When Will Silent Radars Be Implemented?

The exact dates for the implementation of these silent radars have not been announced yet. However, Dubai Police has assured that all behavioural fines will be double-checked before being issued.

Advanced Technology for Better Safety

These new radars will utilize the latest technology to monitor up to six main lanes on the highway, ensuring a comprehensive coverage of traffic behavior. The aim is to enhance road safety for all.
